We are currently seeking a Technical Trainer is a highly visible, hands‑on technical leader responsible for developing elite‑level technicians and delivering best‑in‑class technical training across Laborde locations, customers, and dealer partners. This role exists to elevate technical capability at every level; from onboarding new technicians to advancing experienced technicians, customers, and dealers to the highest standards of skill, safety, and diagnostic excellence. The Technical Trainer plays a critical role in maximizing customer uptime, improving service quality, and reinforcing Laborde’s reputation as a trusted technical authority in the market. Success in this role requires deep technical credibility, strong instructional capability, urgency, accountability, and a passion for developing people. The Technical Trainer must be equally effective in the classroom, the shop, the field, and customer or dealer environments by setting the technical standard and driving continuous improvement that is aligned with Laborde’s values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Training Leadership & Delivery
- Develop, deliver, and continuously improve structured technical training programs for service technicians, customers, and dealer partners.
- Lead hands‑on, classroom, and field‑based training covering engines, systems, diagnostics, service procedures, and best practices.
- Serve as a technical authority and instructor for both internal and external audiences, ensuring training is practical, relevant, and performance‑driven.
- Conduct ride‑alongs, shop evaluations, and field assessments to validate technician competency and application of training.
- Provide direct coaching and actionable feedback to accelerate technician skill development and consistency.
Curriculum Development & Standardization
- Create and maintain standardized training materials, presentations, guides, and hands‑on exercises aligned across all Laborde locations.
- Develop progressive training pathways for new technicians, advanced technicians, and specialized platforms.
- Ensure all training content aligns with OEM requirements and certifications (Mitsubishi, Scania, Yanmar, Steyr, etc.).
- Partner with Learning & Development and Technical Services to support onboarding programs, recertification cycles, and advanced technical training.
Technician, Customer & Dealer Development
- Elevate internal technician capability to improve service quality, diagnostic accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
- Deliver customer and dealer training to support proper operation, maintenance, and service understanding of Laborde‑supported products.
- Reinforce best practices, safety standards, and correct service procedures to reduce downtime and improve long‑term equipment performance.
- Support cross‑training initiatives to expand technical depth and flexibility across the organization.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partner closely with Service Managers to identify skill gaps, training needs, and performance improvement opportunities.
- Work with Technical Services, Engineering, and Operations to ensure technical accuracy and consistency of training content.
- Participate in technician interviews and evaluations as a technical subject matter expert.
- Communicate recurring technical challenges, product issues, or training gaps to leadership to drive process and product improvements.
- Support the rollout of service bulletins, product updates, and technical improvement initiatives internally and externally.
Recertification & Continuing Education
- Plan and execute recurring recertification training to maintain technical excellence and compliance.
- Deliver refresher and advanced training to ensure technicians, customers, and dealers remain current with evolving technology and standards.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and technical ownership.
- May perform other duties as required by business needs.
Qualifications we are looking for:
- Technical degree or certification from a diesel, marine, or related technical program preferred
- Equivalent hands-on experience in lieu of formal education will be considered
Skills you will need:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a diesel or marine service technician or equivalent technical role.
- Strong, hands‑on knowledge of engines, marine systems, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering technical training or mentoring technicians.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and practically.
- Willingness and ability to travel between Laborde locations, customer sites, and dealer facilities as required.
- OEM certifications (Mitsubishi, Scania, Yanmar, Steyr, etc.) are preferred.
What you can expect as a Technical Trainer:
- This position operates in both an office and industrial environment.
- Regularly works around mechanical equipment and may be exposed to high noise levels at times.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crawl and climb ladders.
- Required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Work Schedule and Benefits:
- Standard office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 5:00pm.
